I am honored and privileged to be a part of the Souls Shot Portrait Project. It is an undertaking created to raise awareness about gun violence and its devastating effects. Artists link with families and friends of victims, and then create a portrayal of the loved one lost. These portraits and sculptures are then displayed in a variety of venues over the course of the year. The mission is that these individuals are forever remembered through art, and hopefully, a greater awareness of these senseless tragedies brings comforts to those who mourn, a better understanding of their unfinished lives, and ultimately, an end to gun violence. This is Andre – who I got to know about from speaking with his fiancee, Amanda, also pictured here. He was shot and killed over a parking spot. Senseless.
