“Riders Up”
One thing that really surprises and inspires me whenever I visit the racetrack is the character of the jockeys. They have to be among the bravest athletes in the world. And they’re all so tiny, like smaller than 60 inches tall. Lightweights, too – usually 120 lbs or less. But they are all incredibly strong, and have great endurance. This jockey is no youngster; he has made his career on top of a horse. His knuckles were all arthritic.

This is amazing, Terry, you always are spot on with the emotion and textures – love the narrative, too!
Thanks so much, Joani. I don’t know how these guys do it – it looks pretty scary up there on a horse, and to be speed racing to boot.
Wow, a favorite Terry. I love his profile framed by his arm, the angle of his crop…and especially his beautiful blue and gold silks!
Thank you, Sherry. I played around with the crop, hoping for some interesting perspectives.
Long time no see! I’ve missed your paintings and fantastic descriptions… This one is great and makes me feel like to guess what he’s thinking about!
