“Kimberly McCarthy – Death Row”
Kimberly McCarthy was executed by the state of Texas in June, 2013. I found her photo compelling and unsettling, and I desired to paint her portrait. I painted a cropped visage, to intensify her gaze and the viewer’s focus. I wrote to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for permission to paint her; I was given the green light, as this photo is considered public information. I would love to contact her family to see if they desire a copy of this painting, but I have not been successful. Winner of Honorable Mention in Abington Art Center Annual Juried Show, 2013.

Great idea, Terry! This could well be my favorite – excellent!
Thanks, Joani. I could not resist painting her.
An emotion stirring portrait Terry and so expertly done
Thank you, Lorraine. I’m glad you have been moved by my painting.
Beautifully painted as always Terry. The more I look at her, even more emotion shows I think.
I felt the same way, Sherry. I see so much in her eyes.
This painting brings your work to a whole new level Terry. To capture a woman in this circumstance is courageous on your part- and so well done.
It was her eyes that got me, Anne. As they say, the window into the soul..
