When looking for a subject to paint, I find myself drawn to the special nuances and gestures that happen in the ordinary moments of our lives. This man, leaning on a pedestal, had as much to say with his right hand as with his words. Laden with the richness of expression, he had a story to be told, and the moment beckoned me to paint it.
