“The Gentleman”
The lines and shadows on peoples’ faces convey so much about their character to me, and something about their lives. I am always drawn to paint such portraits. I used a rainbow of pigments in this man’s face, while maintaining more neutral tones in his garb and in the background. I utilized some softer edges around his hair and shoulders, and I tried to capture a more weathered presence. This painting exhibited at the Adirondack National Exhibition of Watercolors, 2013.

The colors you used work wonderfully with the face- and the clothes just add to the impact of this portrait. Really nice piece.
Thanks, Anne!
Another great portrait Terry, he does in fact look like a Gentle Man, love the wrinkle texture you have on his face and your choice of colours for the background tie in so well with your subject
Appreciate your comments, Lorraine.
Terry, this piece just gets better every time I look at it. Your repeated angles are really making this work so well. And it’s beautiful besides!
Thanks, Sherry. You’re right about the angles – I didn’t even realize that.
