Thoughts in the Garden

This man’s downward gaze moved me to try my hand painting him. I started with his face and clothing, then washed in a pale background. I always give myself license to play with colors, in order to highlight a mood or emotion. Interesting patterns and rhythms began to develop as I added the suggestions of leaves and petals, and they enhanced his pensive glance.
