“Reuben as a Child”
This was my great-uncle, painted from a faded sepia photograph from the early 1900s. Maybe because photography was so different back then, but kids never seemed to smile when posing in these old photos. As I added color to his world, the winsomeness in his young face was revealed, and yet, there remained something melancholy in his gaze. This paradox guided my brushstrokes, and seemed to bring his childhood (totally unknown to me) alive.

Very soulful, Terry – a favorite!
Thanks, Joani. Interestingly, as an uncle, he was the great comedian in the family.
Could be thinking about Father Christmas and whether he is on his list for a visit!
Merry Christmas Terry
That’s a great connection to the painting, Lorraine. Thanks! Merry Christmas to you.
An intense piece Terry! Love his eyes.
Thanks, Sherry. He was fun to paint. Wish he could see it now!
