“Afternoon in the Sun”
I get much of my inspiration from photos that I have taken at the racetrack. On a very hot day, this woman was sitting on a bench with her husband when I snapped their photo. After isolating her image, I just loved watching her character evolve on the watercolor paper as I painted – she was so full of intensity, and the blaring sun allowed me to exploit this in my interpretation.

Thanks, Joani. She’s in the bright sun, but she has a dark side.
