“Her Periwinkle Smock”
Sometimes it’s a pose; sometimes a smile. The old black and white family photo that inspired this painting spoke from her eyes. This is a distant cousin of mine, several times removed. I tried to convey a vibrancy of color that complimented her most beautiful gaze. And yet, she seemed to be an understated and soft woman. I allowed the background to intensify her presence and make it pop. And I chose to create a periwinkle blue to color her smock – a more subdued hue to match her quiet dignity.
